Moose Jaw Restaurant Review: by Tony and the Critics

I felt we needed a public account of some kind, to cover the 60 or so establishments selling food in Moose Jaw, so i drew with up a quick list with Dave Le Nouail, and asked some other friends, and here is the consensus we came to, I hope we didn't miss any restaurants...
Please feel free to state your own opinions, and i might consider them, if they are worth considering (some people have bad taste, why deny it?).

the "unknown" ones i have yet to try, and so i ask you to tell me about them.

**Please know this is for Moose Jaw locations only, i'm sure Houston's Pizza in other cities would get a much higher rating.

  1. I find it interesting that Quizno's made it out of the fast food list...isn't it fast food?

  2. You missed Renate's. This is a tea house on Main Street with one of the most extensive tea menus I've ever seen. And you can buy every tea on their menu to take home - I recommend the Sencha Kyoto Cherry Rose Green Tea. They also have the most amazing desserts and offer sushi, the only place in Moose Jaw to get it (unless Amuze does it, which is a great restaurant but I agree - overpriced). The sushi is only so-so but if you've got a serious craving and can't get into Miso in Regina, this will do.

  3. I have had Tea and Dessert at Renates before, actually.
i couldn't remember if they served food for sure or not.

Where would they fit on the list?

  5. i am just glad to see that nits is near the top. if i could transport one restaurant around in my backpack. it would be nits.

i was surprised smitty's was so low. if not for all the late night memories that can only come from too much grease and bad coffee. and unopened text books. i would kill for 24hr breakfast around here. --- ruthi

  6. Quizno's is fast food. The tuna melt made the list of most fattening and high calorie foods that will kill you...so I gotta try that. Good fast food is still fast food. Also, is DejaVu the same thing up there in Canadia as it is down here in America?

  7. I've changed the level names, since i wasn't trying to categorize by food-kinds like "fast food", but rather list in order of Quality, and most fastfood places are generally of the same quality/desirability so they group up quite easily.
Quizno's, or at least the one here, far out-ranks many restaurants here.

I didn't know there was more than one DejaVu's -
is the one/ones in America "chicken outfits"? (wings and strips and all many of deep-fried treasures)
i thought ours was a local one and only....

  8. Bill's cafe used to be a big hit for the men's breakfast at church. They went there until they outgrew the building :)

  11. I am very suprised BP's made it on the top list. The restaurant stinks like the dish washer as soon as you walk in. There are flies in the winter time... where do they come from? The service is absolutly terrible... especially that blonde skinny bitch that works in the lounge. I would never recommend the BP's in Moose Jaw.

    1. Wow! I have always had great service. Maybe not pick out certain servers, they may have been having a really bad day, just saying. Try the bar area,my favorite spot. Server Tracey, tall dark hair. Second tries are best and a new spot can give a new perspective.

  14. Kwangton is a most interesting place. family run and it shows. However, it is very good depending on what you order. i did a test of wonton soups all aroud the city once, and it scored pretty high on that. The combination specials are pretty good for the money. Interestingly on the wonton soup... Soons scored the highest... miles above the rest. They were willing to add to it and the actual wontons were exceptional. Siad they are closed. Soon said they would make the soup for us if we wanted, but I have never taken them up on it.

  15. I think you need to do a follow up on some of these places. There are a few in town you have not included and a few that are not here any longer.
